The Upper Keys Sailing Club celebrated its 21st ladies only running of the Presidents Cup, as well as the TIB Regatta held recently in Key Largo from their bayside homeport in Buttonwood Sound. In 1988, Ruth Ackerman, president of TIB Bank of the Keys at that time, founded this prestigious annual sailing event. Since the inception of the regatta, TIB Bank has been its biggest community supporter, contributing more than $11,000, to assist the nonprofit's mission. The Sailing Club, with over 300 members from around the world, was founded in 1973. Besides offering sailing lessons through their "Mark Sorensen Youth Sailing Program," they also support the Coral Shores High School Sailing Club.
