Proud parents and mentors turned out to celebrate the graduation of 42 Monroe County Seniors who will, thanks to the Take Stock in Children program, attend college on scholarships. In the attached photo, John Padget -- founder of the local program and a continuing benefactor -- handed out Take Stock in Children medallions to the graduates. Monroe County Mayor George Neugent was the keynote speaker. This was the ninth annual graduation, marking 266 scholars who have successfully completed the program locally. As these students go on to college, 228 more Monroe County children follow their lead, meeting with mentors and maintaining the grades necessary to receive a fully paid four year scholarship.
