Lower Keys Medical Center Leprechauns ran with an American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraising idea that Les Jackson, manager of the IT department came up with. His idea was to have employees pay $10 to become a candidate for King and Queen Leprechaun for St. PatrickÕs Day and then asks for $1 per vote. The multitude of candidates raised over $6,200 with a number of fund raisers consisting of car washes by administration and managers, a personal chef dinner for 4 by Chef Wayne Keeler of FinneganÕs Wake, Pot of Gold 50/50 raffle, several themed basket raffles, double date dinner for 2 with 2 of the candidates and a bingo fundraiser at BÕnai Zion Synagogue.
The LKMC Queen and King Leprechauns 2009 were announced in a grand coronation event on St. PatrickÕs Day at noon in the hospital lobby with nearly 100 employees cheering them on. Awarded the Queen Leprechaun 2009 was Angelina Kontodiakos and King Leprechaun 2009 was Don Canalejo.
