The Marathon Parks and Recreation Department is in its second month of Quickstart Tennis lessons at Community Park. The program began in early February as a way to instruct youngsters between the ages of 5-12 in correct tennis technique. Using the program format developed by the USTA last spring, Quickstart Tennis uses smaller racquets, foam and low-compression tennis balls, and nets which divide courts in to a ÒmanageableÓ size for young people learning the game. Sessions are each Saturday morning at the Community Park tennis courts. Under the leadership of Nicole Berger, USPTA Teaching Professional, with the assistance of Pam Marco, Ed Fisher and Roger Stone, the nearly 50 participants are getting a strong dose of Ògood tennis skillsÓ each Saturday.
Call the Parks and Recreation office at 743-6598. The cost for the entire program is $40. No equipment is needed.
