A bold and colorful mural -- part of an underwater Endangered Species project -- has earned the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce's Angelfish Beautification Award for a longtime Upper Keys dive shop owner. Capt. Slate's Atlantis Dive Center, owned by Capt. Spencer Slate, received the honor for the mural painted by muralist David Dunleavy. Slate also spruced up the front of his distinctive A-frame building with purple bougainvillea and snappy new flags for the top. The Angelfish Beautification Award is given to the chamber member who does the most to beautify his or her property. To nominate a business, call 451-1414.
