The final prefabricated module for the new Main Lodge building at the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, is swung over the Atlantic Ocean Friday, Sept. 25, as the Florida Keys resort gets ready to reopen after it was closed by a New Year's Eve fire that heavily damaged the old lodge building. Resort officials celebrated with a "topping off" celebration for the building that features 62 suites, two restaurants and a club level. Constructed in Okeechobee and trucked down the Overseas Highway, the modules are environmentally sustainable, energy efficient and can withstand a Category 5 hurricane. The process to erect the modular building took just 90 days. Officials plan to reopen the resort Dec. 15.
