For many years I have traveled through the Wheel Ditch just bayside of Robbie's Marina on the north end of Upper Matecumbe Key. I realized each time going thru that it would be only a matter of time before someone was killed there.

Recently there has been talk and meetings discussing creating Key Largo into a municipality. After reading many of the articles and comments from those for and against this issue, I find some of the reasoning behind incorporation to be confusing.

Once again, we were given a beautiful concert by the Marathon High School and Middle School Band. Under the direction of Joe Rayhill, they presented an evening of music that was simply awesome.

When I owned the Maytag laundry in Marathon, about 25 percent of my business came from the boaters at Boot Key. The city now has at least three washers and dryers for the boaters at the City of Marathon Marina.

I was delivering my two cats to Dr. Michael Dunn at Keys Animal Hospital on Overseas Highway in Marathon for a checkup when the carrier transporting both cats fell apart as the office assistant held the front door.

A recent editorial slammed Alicia Putney as an "obstructionist" for her long struggle to keep No Name Key off the power grid. It also claimed there were very few "true solar communities" anywhere in the world.

May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month. In recognition of the caring, selfless foster parents of Monroe County, Wesley House Family Services, together with Our Kids Miami-Dade/Monroe, held two events to celebrate. The first was in Key West for families living in the Lower Keys.

I admit it, I am a worrier. I keep thinking about the Key West referendum on a study to dredge the shipping channel in Key West Harbor and worry what could go wrong. What have we not considered before the wording and parameters are set in stone?
