Loving a sister, a soldier, a hero on Veterans Day

Reporter Editor David Goodhue shared this family memory last year about the meaning of Veterans Day. The letter, edited for space here, was written by Olivia Loncki, his niece, after learning her sister, Sr. Airman Elizabeth Loncki, was killed in Iraq.

Misquote still haunts

In 1995, when I was the new Key West city attorney, Duck Tours sued the city for allegedly allowing Historic Tours of America a sightseeing monopoly, so I asked the City Commission in an executive session for instruction. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is proposing to close all bottom fishing in the Atlantic Ocean from the 90-foot depth line to 200 miles offshore, including the red snapper fishery. This closure will last for up to 35 years. The push to enact this massive closure has largely been due to intense lobbying pressure from the Pew Foundation as part of its anti-fishing campaign.
