Kristi L. Peterson-Burton of Key Largo died on Oct. 14 after a nearly two-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Chicago on April 6, 1959, and moved to the Keys with her parents Levi and Doris in 1976. She, along with her parents and brother, owned and ran the Crack'd Conch Restaurant at mile marker 105 for 25 years.

She met her future husband, Ken Burton, at Fantasy Fest in Key West in 1985.

She loved animals, having adopted numerous strays over the years. She and her husband also loved boating and snorkeling together. They also traveled, giving Mrs. Peterson-Burton the opportunity to utilize her photo skills. She also was a talented cook.

She is survived by her husband Ken; daughter Jessyne Peterson; grandson Adrian; brother Clifford Peterson; sister-in-law Julie Stone and her husband Gary; brothers-in-law Bill Burton and his wife Marie, and Rory Burton; mother-in-law Anna Burton; and longtime friends Caryn Wiersma, and Judy and Jay Farnum.
