Key Largo resident Derek Williams, 19, was sentenced Monday to 180 days in county jail and will be registered as a sex offender after he pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a video tape showing him having sex with a 16-year-old girl.
Prosecutors said Williams also tried to persuade a 14-year-old girl to perform sex acts at the Key Largo house where the video recording took place in spring.
According to Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne, Williams reached a deal with prosecutors. He agreed to plead no contest to felony charges of lewd and lascivious exhibition and attempting to promote sexual performance by a child.
In exchange, Williams was not convicted as a felon and two child pornography charges were dropped. He will serve five years probation following the jail term.
Williams was also ordered to pay court, investigation and prosecution costs and submit to psycho-sexual evaluations and follow any recommended treatments, Dunne said.
Williams was arrested April 15 along with nine other Upper Keys teens who police said participated in making a pornographic video. Most of the teens were given probation.
Dunne said Circuit Court Judge Luis Garcia had to designate Williams a sex offender because the charge of lewd and lascivious exhibition involved a victim 14 to 17 years old and more than four years younger than Williams.
The charge did not pertain to sex acts with the 16-year-old girl. After the filming Williams reportedly went into a room with a 14-year-old girl who was present during the filming. He encouraged the girl to perform a sexual act on him.
Williams had two pending charges of selling marijuana. As part of the plea deal, one charge was dismissed and he was sentenced to five years concurrent probation on the other charge.
