Once a respected Key West Realtor, Troy Henson is now heading to prison for 15 years.
Once a high-flying, prominent Key West Realtor, Troy Henson is now heading to state prison for what looks to be 15 years after pleading guilty Monday to two counts of molesting a child.
Henson, 38, admitted to one count each of lewd and lascivious molestation and sexual activity with a child. He had been facing two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, seven counts of sexual activity with a child and five counts of sexual battery on a person under age 12.
The abuse reportedly started when the victim was 7 or 8 years old, and the plea deal details numerous cases of abuse of the minor girl, starting in 1998 and going through December 2007.
She told investigators Henson molested her "too many times to count."
Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne is recommending to Monroe County Circuit Court Luis Garcia that Henson get 15 years in prison for the guilty pleas followed by 10 years of sex-offender probation, be designated a sexual predator, and pay fines, court costs and investigative costs.
Sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 8 before Garcia on Plantation Key. However, Garcia is not bound by the negotiated plea, which notes that Henson understands he could get up to a life term.
Henson was well known in Key West business circles and active in community organizations. A real-estate Web site where Henson fielded online questions about local property remains active, and describes him as "a Conch (native to Key West), stretching back to seven generations of successful entrepreneurs."
Henson was arrested on March 24, 2008, and charged with three counts each of sexual battery on a minor and forcing a minor into sexual acts. The rest of the charges were added as the investigation expanded.
The counts Henson pleaded guilty to allege he had the girl fondle him when she was younger than 12, and had intercourse with her when she was older than 12 but younger than 18.
Since his arrest, Henson has been in the Monroe County Detention Center without bond.
