The Historical Preservation Society's continues its summer series of local history with a 46-minute 1985 filmed interview of three grandchildren of Aldolphus Pinder, son of Richard and Sarah Pinder, who lived on Indian Key in 1870.
Adolphus homesteaded 150 acres on Upper Matecumbe Key in 1883. The ladies interviewed are Juliet Pinder Cothron, Evanette Pinder Stone and Laurette Pinder Russell - all of present-day Islamorada.
The program will be Monday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Key Largo Library Community Room at mile marker 101.5 in the Tradewinds Shopping Plaza.

The Human Animal Care Coalition at mile marker 105.9 in Key Largo will hold a free rabies clinic on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 2-4 p.m.
To participate, all dogs and cats must be under control. Dogs must be on leashes, and muzzled if necessary. Cats must be in carriers.

The 2009 Redland Fall Orchid Sale will be held at four locations in South Florida from Friday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 11.

There will be a drawing for four orchid collections on Sunday, Oct. 11. To be eligible, participants must have their coupons stamped by at least three growers. The Amoray Dive Resort at mile marker 104 will host a fundraiser dinner for Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo on Nov. 14 at 5 p.m.

The Coconut Palm Inn at 198 Harborview Drive in Tavernier will host the annual Beer vs. Wine Dinner on Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Food will be provided by Tasters Grille & Market. A silent auction for items like wine baskets and vacation resorts will be held throughout the night.
