Islamorada Capt. Brian Cone made catching a tournament prize two years in a row look easy as he led his team aboard the Contagious to win the Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic, fished Oct. 17 and 18 in Islamorada waters.

Cone, along with anglers Don Seifel of Connecticut, Ed Stevens and Bill Keller of Islamorada and Shannon Attales of Key Largo, captured the $5,000 cash-and-trophy first-place boat prize. The team brought in one kingfish and three tuna for a combined weight of 70.3 pounds.

Seifel, named the tournament's top angler, also brought in a winning 21.3-pound kingfish.

Target species in the competition were dolphin, kingfish, tuna, wahoo, snapper and grouper.

Amanda Towe caught the tournament's top single wahoo at 12.1 pounds. Fishing aboard the My-Sea-Cin, she also earned the title of top lady angler.

Weekend Warrior titles for catching the top snapper and grouper were awarded to J.R. Glover on the Bad Habit with a 2.8-pound snapper and Joaquin Riera with a 13.5-pound grouper.

A field of 154 anglers on 28 boats participated in the Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic. According to tournament organizers, $11,000 was donated to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier.
