IndigoFinch works with homeowners and real estate agents to style and stage homes that are for sale and for rent.
Owners Jack and Jennette Taylor moved their business to Marathon this fall. Their goal is to make clients’ homes stand out from the competition.
“Every property should be staged when it goes on the market,” Jennette Taylor said, because buyers have trouble picturing themselves — and their stuff — in an empty house. On the other hand, a home that has too much in it will turn off buyers.
One of the first things Jennette noticed was how small Keys homes are. “They’re jammed full of furniture. They need to be decompressed.”
With the changing real estate market comes changing expectations, she said, which makes it even more crucial to make a good impression on buyers.
Jennette said she’s interested in updating vacation rentals, as well, because some relatively simple changes can result in higher rents.
A consultation costs $250 for a home under 2,500 square feet, Jennette said. It results in a room-by-room list of things to address, plus a rough budget and timeline. Clients can then do the work themselves or have the Taylors do it for them.
The couple started IndigoFinch in 2008, when they were living in Brandon on Florida’s west coast.
After visiting the Keys for a dozen years, they decided to make it their home. They moved down in September, and they’re committing their full-time attention to the previously part-time business.
Jack’s working on business development, while Jennette focuses on staging. She says they have some projects in the works, but nothing complete yet.
“We’ve had a great reception,” Jennette said of their time in the Keys.
Both natives of the Philadelphia area, the Taylors previously worked for large organizations around New York City designing, decorating, styling and staging for events, offices and homes.
