This cookoff is Key Largo's toast of the town Nov. 12

Lobster bisque proved a winner as Best of Show in the Soup and Chowder category last year. Left to right: Andy Dickson, Community Bank; Cook-Off Chair Dr. Jim Boilini; winner Laura Dreaver of Key Largo Conch House, and Chamber Chair Amy Pierson of TIB Bank.

Chefs will strut their stuff Nov. 12 at the 28th annual Key Largo Chamber of Commerce Cookoff.

Best recipes, lots of preparation, and the thrill of competition drive these food emparasios, which covers the gamut from eager amateurs to top pros giving for a good cause.

Divisions include five categories: soups and choweders, appetizers, entrees, desserts, and sides and salads.

The Holiday Inn, mile marker (MM) 100 in Key Largo, hosts this big event, which will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. Public sampling starts at 7 p.m. and awards are announced afterward.

This competition features some family recipes handed down through the generations alongside the latest creations dreamed up by head chefs, according to event organizer Jim Boilini. He said about a third of the entries will feature seafood.

The juried cooking show is free to competitors. Sampling tickets are available for sale at $15 per person. They can be purchased at the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, MM 106.

For more information, call the chamber 451-1481.
