The Artists in Paradise Gallery is showcasing artist VeEtta Baldwin's new scratch art works from Nov. 1 to the 30th.

Baldwin, one of the founding members of the Big Pine gallery, has been working with scratch art, a technique that scratches an image with a knife on a black ink-covered board.

After removing some of the black ink, the artist paints the exposed white clay of the board with water colors, which are later fixed with a clear acrylic.

Baldwin's scratch art paintings treat subjects such as birds, animals, and tropical flora.

Artists in Paradise Gallery, located in the Winn Dixie Shopping Plaza, has been operating on Big Pine for 16 years.

There are 30 artists' works represented at the gallery, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
