'Beauty and the Beast' opens Oct. 30

The Kids' Theater production of "Beauty and the Beast Jr." will debut Oct. 30 at the Coral Shores Performing Arts Center.

Five performances are scheduled by the group, which includes talent drawn from Plantation Key Elementary, Middle and Coral Shores High School.

Coral Shores High School seniors Luana Peixoto and Javier Soltero have the lead roles, portraying the charming Belle and enchanted Beast.

Michele Zofchak, a teacher at PKS, directs the play, which is adapted by Music Theater International, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

The Kid's Theater is part of the Education Coalition for Monroe County, and performances are being staged in collaboration with Monroe County Schools.

Zofchak has previously directed performances including "The Stories of Scheherazade," "Give My Regards to Broadway," Yearbook Reflections, "A Christmas Carol," "Willie Wonka" and "Annie Jr."

The schedule of performances includes 7 p.m. shows Oct. 30, Nov. 13, Nov. 14 and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees Nov. 1 and Nov. 15.

Tickets are $5 each and are on sale now. They can be purchased in advance through the Kids' Theatre cast or at the Coral Shores High School the night of the productions.
