An astrolabe, gold and other artifacts featured in Harry Potter's World exhibit.

Can you guess what the Muggles have in common with Spanish ship captains who plied the Caribbean waters in the 1600s?

If you know your astronomy, you may have guessed astrolabe, a device used by sailors to navigate the seas and by astronomers to navigate the stars. It's part of a special exhibit, "Harry Potter's World," that's opened at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in Key West.

The leprechaun in last year's St. Patrick's Day Parade was none other than smiling Irishman Jack Crowley.

"When Irish eyes are smilin' . . . "

Well, you know the rest. Or you will if you participate in the Key Colony Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 17.

The wearin' of the green is a good excuse to hold a community event, according to organizer Jack Crowley.

'Island Life' by West Coast artist Steve Barton.

Artist Steve Barton's tropical paintings will be featured at Wyland Galleries of Key West March 6-11.

Known for his "strong brush strokes, rich textures and vibrant colors," Barton was best known for his works that captured coastal scenes along the California coast.

Since then, he's expanded his repertoire and his work can be found in 35 galleries from Hawaii to Florida, even Puerto Rico.
