The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that gas pumps exploded as fire early this morning spread from a building at a marina on the bayside of Key Largo.

According to a statement from MCSO Deputy Becky Herrin, the fire at Blackwater Sound Marina caused only minor damage to the roof of Senor Frijoles restaurant on the fire side of the building.

Deputies who arrived at the fire scene at 2:30 a.m. reported that fuel pumps at the marina exploded as the fire spread from the Marina office, which is next to Senor Frijoles.

Within half an hour, firefighters had the blaze under control, Herrin said. No one was reported injured in the fire.

The Fire Marshall's Office will investigate the cause of the blaze. No apparent source of the fire was reported.

One southbound lane of U.S. 1 was closed for about two hours for access by emergency vehicles.
