What we'll call the smell of incense hung thick over the pier at the Ocean Key Resort at 0 Duval St. on Friday night.

There was a palpable sense of anticipation as excited fans, old and young, waited for Stephen Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley, to take the stage.

The sense of urgency was compounded when tickets, around 1300, sold out around 8 o'clock; those in the know saw that coming and opted for the sure bet -- less-expensive advanced tickets.

The horns hit the high notes, the bass pumped the low end and Marley covered everything in between with his soaring vocals and punchy guitar riffs.

He pumped out some of his dad's classics like "Redemption Song," "Get Up Stand Up" and "Is This Love."

A woman in the front row, who had traveled to the Keys from New York exclusively to commune with Marley's music, was overcome.

Her tears flowed almost in sync with the notes. At one point she reached her hand up toward the stage and offered Marley a beautiful bouquet.

To the rest of the crowd, he accepted the flowers without missing a beat; but to the lady from New York, time stood still and that moment will linger in her mind until the end of days.
