An 18-year-old Broward County man died Monday night in Miami from injuries sustained in a June 23 car crash near mile marker 80 in Islamorada.

Justin Socarras of Southwest Ranches was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami after a red 2004 Isuzu Rodeo he was driving collided with a parked car and boat trailer along U.S. 1.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Socarras was traveling north on the highway around 12:45 p.m. the day of the crash and, for unknown reasons, lost control of the sport-utility vehicle.

The Isuzu rolled in a northeast direction, taking down some power lines before striking the trailer and a legally parked, unoccupied 2005 Chrysler. The Chrysler and boat trailer were parked in front of the Sands of Islamorada resort. Each sustained minor damage.

The FHP says Socarras was ejected from the Isuzu and partially pinned under it. His passenger, 20-year-old Jordan Lane of Pembroke Pines, sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The FHP said Socarras died at 10 p.m. on Monday. His was the seventh traffic-related fatality of the year in Monroe County.
