Former Key West cop jailed on two felonies alleging child sex abuse

March 24, 2014

Henry Arroyo, a former Key West Police Department resource officer at Key West High School, was arrested Monday on two felony counts of lewd and lascivious behavior for allegedly molesting a child younger than 12.

Arroyo, 41, resigned from the department last month after being placed on paid lead on Dec. 17.

Arroyo was being investigated by the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Florida Department of Lawn Enforcement.

Monday, the FDLE said in a prepared statement that Arroyo abused the victim starting when the victim was 10 and lasting until the victim was 13. It started in March 2010 and ended this past December, when the investigation began.

He turned himself in at the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island Monday around 9:45 a.m., according to booking records. Bond was set at $100,000. He had to turn in his passport.

Arroyo earned $49,036 per year. He was hired in 1999 and resigned in April 2011. He was rehired in December that same year.

Arroyo's personnel file doesn't include any reprimands. In 2000, the Federal Bureau of Investigation for "exceptional service in the public interest recognized him" and in 2006 he was named officer of the quarter, police spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.
