Stock Island woman accused of burning teen with boiling water

March 1, 2014

A Key West woman remained in the Keys jail on $10,000 bond Friday after being arrested Wednesday for allegedly throwing boiling water on a child.

Nadeige Pluviose, 32, is charged with aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony crime.

The 14-year-old girl she's accused of burning with the water was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. She sustained second- and three-degree burns on her face, neck and shoulders, says Deputy Becky Herrin from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

She said the incident happened about 6 a.m. Wednesday, but detectives say no one seems to know why Pluviose threw the water on the girl, and Pluviose isn't talking.

Herrin said a witness told Detective Manuel Cuervo he heard the girl screaming and saw Pluviose run from the room where the girl was sleeping, carrying a plastic cup. He said he checked the kitchen of the home on 3rd Avenue on Stock Island and found the stove hot.

The Florida Abuse Hotline accepts reports of known or suspected child abuse 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The number is (800) 962-2873.
