I am an American citizen who believes that this country was founded on religion. The negative responses to Pastor Nick Vaughn's invocation at a Marathon City Council meeting are totally pointless.
He was asked to pray and he did just that. Each clergy person will pray the way he or she does every day, so get over it. They should not have to change the way they pray every day just to satisfy one councilman and the mayor.
Some pray to the stars, some to Buddha, God, Jesus, Allah and many more in each belief. If the councilman is so opposed to prayer, let him remain seated as he has in the past and let the ones who want prayer over the council and its decisions to do what is best for our beautiful city do that. Pastor Nick just wants the council to make good choices for the place where he lives, along with the rest of us that live here. I am glad that prayer is finally in our council meetings.
Where is the thank-you to Pastor Nick from the city? He has never turned the city away in helping with the Family Fun Day, Family Skate Night, feeding the homeless and many more things he has stepped up to the plate to help with. He has gotten the church to step up and do for the city in these events, as well. So where are the thank-yous that should be written about his help and support?
Enough is enough in the newspaper and dragging him through the mud for doing what he was asked to do. Wake up, people, and stand up for the other side. I know I am.
