Big Coppitt man charged with attempted murder in jealousy-fueled stabbing

February 8, 2014

A 27-year-old Big Coppitt Key man has been jailed for allegedly stabbing a Sugarloaf Key man in a fit of jealousy early Saturday morning. The victim, Yunior Carrazana, 30, was listed in critical condition at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Ramon Sanchez is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, obstruction of justice, domestic battery and burglary with battery on the occupant.

Deputy Becky Herrin said Sanchez and Dayanet Portal, 22, were separated but have a child together. She said Sanchez called Portal because the child was sick. While they were on the phone, he asked who she was with and she wouldn't tell him.

Sanchez later showed up at Portal's home on Avenue A on Big Coppitt, and Carrazana was there. Herrin said Sanchez found the two in a bedroom, and that Sanchez "attacked [Portal], stabbing at her with the knife and striking her several times with his hands."

Herrin said Sanchez then went after Carrazana, "stabbing him in the arm and multiple times in the upper torso." Sanchez allegedly held the two in the room for about 15 minutes, then left.

He was found in a Dodge pickup truck at mile marker 6 a short time later, and arrested. Herrin said a bloody knife was in the truck.
