Jail guard jailed herself on domestic-battery charge

February 3, 2014

A Monroe County Sheriff's Office detention deputy on Monday was put behind the bars she usually guards, charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

Brittany Linares, 33, was booked into the Stock Island jail around 2:30 a.m., after she and her husband had a fight after returning to their Big Coppitt Key home following a Super Bowl party.

Deputy Becky Herrin said Linares' husband said that at one point, Linares grabbed his holstered gun and said she was going to make him kill her. When he in turn grabbed the gun to get it away from her, Linares bit him on the arm, Herrin said.

Linares then started breaking things in the house, and her husband called the Sheriff's Office. Herrin said Linares has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2005. She's suspended with with pay until an agency review is complete.
